1. Overview
DaycareSquare is operated by Redress Compliance, Inc. ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data we collect when you visit daycaresquare.com, how we use it, and what rights you have. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the directory, we never sell your contact information, and you can ask us to delete your data at any time.
2. What we collect
We collect three categories of information:
2.1 Information you provide directly
- Newsletter sign-up: email address.
- Daycare inquiry: name, email address, phone (optional), child's age, ZIP code, and any message you write to the daycare.
- Email-gated downloads (comparison checklist, tour questions): email address.
- Contact form: name, email, topic, and message.
- Provider signup (for daycare operators): business name, address, phone, license number, contact name and role, work email.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- IP address (truncated and discarded after 30 days).
- Browser type, operating system, device type, and screen size.
- Pages viewed, referring URL, time on page.
- Search queries entered on the site.
2.3 Information from third parties
- State licensing data for daycares (public records).
- Accreditation status from NAEYC, NECPA, NAFCC, AMI, AMS, AWSNA, and state QRIS registries.
- Ad-measurement data from our ad network partner, Mediavine (impression and click counts; no individual user identification).
3. How we use it
We use information for the following purposes:
- To run the directory: displaying daycare profiles, calculating editorial rankings, returning search results.
- To forward your inquiry to a daycare: when you submit a contact form on a profile, we send your name, email, phone (if you provided it), child's age, ZIP code, and message to that daycare.
- To send newsletters and downloads you specifically signed up for.
- To improve the site: aggregate analytics, A/B testing of layouts, debugging.
- To prevent fraud: identifying bots, spam, and abusive behavior on review forms.
- To comply with legal obligations.
4. Who we share with
We share information only as follows:
- The daycare you contacted: when you submit a profile inquiry, your message is sent to that single daycare. It is not sent to other daycares, lead-buying networks, or matching services.
- Service providers who help us operate the site: hosting (AWS), email delivery (Postmark), analytics (Plausible, self-hosted; no cookies set), and ad serving (Mediavine, on parent-facing article and guide pages only).
- Government and law enforcement when required by valid legal process.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not provide it to data brokers. We do not auto-enroll you in third-party marketing lists. We do not share inquiry details with any daycare other than the one you contacted.
5. Cookies and tracking
We use a small number of first-party cookies for site functionality (remembering your most recent ZIP code search, dismissed banners, dark-mode preference). We use a self-hosted, privacy-preserving analytics tool (Plausible) that does not set cookies and does not identify individual users.
On pages where we display advertising through Mediavine, the ad network may set cookies under their own privacy policy. You can opt out of personalized advertising through the DAA WebChoices tool or through your browser's "Do Not Track" setting. We respect "Global Privacy Control" (GPC) signals as a request to opt out of any data sales (we do not sell data, but the signal is honored as a confirmation).
6. Children's privacy
DaycareSquare is a service for parents and other adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you believe your child has provided personal information to us, contact privacy@daycaresquare.com and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have one or more of the following rights. We honor them for any visitor, regardless of jurisdiction, where it is feasible to do so.
- Access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: request that we correct inaccurate information.
- Deletion: request that we delete your personal information, subject to limited legal exceptions.
- Portability: request your information in a portable, machine-readable format.
- Opt out of personalized advertising on this site (handled through Mediavine's controls and your browser settings).
- Withdraw consent for newsletter and marketing emails (one-click unsubscribe at the bottom of every email).
- Non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.
For California residents, these rights are described under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). For visitors in the EU, EEA, or UK, these rights are described under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR. To exercise any right, email privacy@daycaresquare.com.
8. Data security
We use industry-standard security practices: TLS encryption in transit, encryption at rest for sensitive fields, role-based access controls for the team, and routine third-party security reviews. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever experience a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you within 72 hours of discovery, as required by applicable law.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. For substantive changes affecting your rights, we will notify you by email (for newsletter subscribers) and post a banner on the homepage for at least 14 days.
